I have to say that in my experience, the Nutrisystem honey wheat bagel is among one of the most popular breakfast items. As of this writing, it's rated on almost perfect five stars by the user community. Frankly, you don't have to use it for breakfast. I know some people who use if for a sandwich at lunch time. It's extremely versatile and diet friendly. But sometimes, I hear from folks who aren't sure quite what to do with it. Few people want to eat a bagel totally dry without any sort of topping. They want to use some sort of topping to make it interesting. But some have concerns that these types of enhancements aren't allowed.
You can have various topping options on the bagel. The company itself suggests fat free cream cheese and I find this to be very popular option. Topping it with an egg is another way to add a protein or "power fuel" as tit is called on this diet. Another option is a slice of lean Canadian bacon. (Please note that you are allowed to add in foods that are classified as: power fuels (which are protein;) vegetables which are self explanatory; smart carbs; and "other," which I'll explain a little more below.)
Another nice option is to top it with apple sauce, although you need to be aware that you're going to be taking in two smart carbs with this option. You could also do strawberry or apple slices if you wanted to stay with the fruit theme. Another option is to top it with a vegetable addition. You could top it with a nice tomato slice or some pepper slices, both sprinkled with black pepper for interest. I've also known folks who like to top it with asparagus.
Finally, you have the option of topping it with something that is classified as "other." Cream cheese as suggested above is classified as an "other." Basically, items in the "other" category are things like condiments or enhancements that add spice. Another option here is a non hydrogenated oil spread used as a butter substitute or a tablespoon of sugar free honey. As hopefully you can see, there are a lot of choices here. And the good news is that you can use any of them, depending on your mood or which meal you are using the bagel for. Many diets don't allow bagels so it's very nice to have all of these choices.
