So you want to lose weight and you have chosen to lose weight by intermittent fasting. For those of you who don't know, intermittent fasting is simply a system that alternates between periods of eating and not eating (usually you get to consume water and sometimes low-calorie drinks such as black coffee)
What this means is that for a set time you get to eat and then you cut down on the amount of calories you take in.
Pretty cool right? That is like a very wonderful idea. I get to eat whatever I want for some time. Later I cut down on the intake of calories. And the best news is that I get to lose weight.
Intermittent fasting has been around for a while and research has shown that it comes with a lot of health benefits.
Getting really interesting? Apart from losing weight, it also comes with a lot of health benefits
· It reduces your urge to get hungry while dieting. For someone looking to start dieting, you definitely know that controlling that hunger urge is a massive work to accomplish. But after a few days of starting the Intermittent fasting, your body adjusts to this new eating pattern.
· It increases your mental focus and concentration. As you indulge in fasting, your body releases chemical called catecholamines which significantly increase your mental awareness and your productivity.
· It stabilizes your energy levels and improves your mood. With fewer meals, your blood sugar levels will be kept stable. This will lead to constant energy levels and help you avoid diabetes in the long run.
· Reduced oxidative stress. This simply means that as you fast, it reduces the accumulation of oxidative radicals in the body. This will greatly reduce damage to harm caused to internal orgas in your body.
· It increases your capacity to resist stress, disease and aging.Intermittent fasting, just like exercising, induces a cellular stress response in your body which increases your capacity to cope with stress and resist disease and aging.
· You get to burn fat. Obviously this is the main reason. You get to lose excess weight. When you eat, your body uses up the glycogen from the food you just ate to give you energy. But as you fast, your body switches to the stored fats and uses them for energy.
· It saves you time and money. Eating fewer meals means preparing and buying fewer meals. Hence you save money and time. Also, you are less exposed to flavours and are therefore less likely to get bored and eat something you should not.
